Music PPA Cover for Primary Schools

Specialist music teachers for your school’s PPA time — delivering engaging, curriculum-aligned lessons for EYFS, KS1 and KS2 while your class teachers plan, prepare and assess.

Why Music Is One of the Hardest PPA Subjects to Cover Well

Most primary teachers are confident in the classroom. Music is the exception. It’s the subject that comes up most often when headteachers talk about PPA cover anxiety — because a non-specialist in a music lesson rarely delivers a real lesson. They manage the room. Children watch a video, complete a worksheet, or sit through something that doesn’t resemble what the National Curriculum asks for.

The National Plan for Music Education (2022, operational from September 2024) is explicit: music provision should be delivered by a music specialist wherever possible. When that’s not feasible internally, schools are expected to seek appropriate external support. That’s exactly what Zoosh Education provides.

We place qualified music teachers in primary schools to deliver PPA cover that children look forward to — and that headteachers, music leads, and Ofsted can stand behind.

What Our Music PPA Cover Delivers

Our music teachers work across EYFS, KS1 and KS2, delivering sessions tailored to year group and curriculum stage. Every lesson is active, practical, and planned in advance — not improvised. All lesson plans, session records, and assessment notes are managed through TeachTool and included in the price. Your school does not need to prepare or source any planning materials.

● Listening and appraising in line with the Model Music Curriculum

Wider Opportunities / First Access programmes

Where your school participates in a Wider Opportunities or First Access programme — typically in Years 3 or 4 — we can provide cover teachers with whole-class instrumental teaching experience. Please specify the instrument group when making an enquiry.

Singing assemblies as PPA cover

Singing assemblies are an efficient way to cover PPA time for multiple year groups simultaneously. A whole year group — or the entire school — participates in a led singing session while class teachers take PPA together. This approach suits schools looking to maximise PPA time in a single block.
